Article: What Is The True Value Of Your Friendships?

image
I like people…always have always will. I am fascinated about people and their stories and why they are the way they are. I like to make friends…and if you are like me, making friends isn’t so difficult. There have been a good number of years where my only new year’s resolution was to make at least one friend. I liked the idea of having friends, but like most people, I failed to realize that the quantity was irrelevant if there was lack in the quality…the genuineness of friendship. Lately, I have been having a shift in my thinking…about friendship, what is it anyway? (I’ve been asking myself), and how do you tell your friends actually cares about you…and that they are even worth your time and energy? I guess the saying: time will tell is true. When life throws a ball at you, when trails and difficulty comes…it will definitely tell you, who your true friends are. Sometimes, it is necessary to sit down and take a long inventory through your list of friends and determine for yourself where to generate your loyalty and energy right?…I think it’s necessary.
So I sat down and determined for myself who is a true friend…but first, pause…remember this young people, you can not request for what you are not willing to give yourself (because it just isn’t fair) ….whatever you pour into a friendship is what you will (should) get back. This is why I said…you determine for yourself who is a true friend; considering and having in mind what you have been giving as a true friend yourself. You can’t expect a mango tree to grown papaya…can you?… (now that we are being fair…let’s carry on) 
I decided that a true friend is…loyal; will correct me when I am at fault without putting me down or in disrespect. A true friend genuinely cares about my well being…and doesn’t rejoice over my short comings. A true friend supports and believes in me, and of course inspires and challenges me for the better. A true friend serves me and I serve them. (Yes! A friendship is supposed to serve you; uplift something positive in you).
I encourage you young people,… if the friendship isn’t serving you in the ways you believe are important, the ways that you believe you are serving it…then must it continue?…I would say no… what would you say?
The truth is, we have all gotten into the wrong friendships. I know I have made friends for the wrongest (is that even a word…wrongest?..oh well, now it is…haha) reasons. But is never too late to learn, get out of it, and grow.
So the question still remains, how can you tell you are in a good, healthy friendship?…Who is a good friend?…How can you tell?
Well first things first…
Your values
Do you have the same values as your friends? Having the same values with the people you call friends doesn’t drain you…it actually rejuvenate you because at the end of the day you are sharing ideas and having conversations that will bring you both to your higher selves. Having same values allows respect in the friendship, but more so growth and less time wasting trying to win the other person over. The way you find out if the other person holds the same values as you is by simply asking them questions. Ask people questions when you meet them…who are they?
Do you hold any commonality with this person you call a friend? This is the initial stage to inviting someone into your world as a friend. Don’t force people who are not suppose to be in your life into your life. It is simply a matter of attracting yourself, and others you can be inspired by…if they are not like you (meaning if you don’t share the same values), you will get drained in that friendship…but you decide for yourself if that’s worth it.
Reciprocity
Now this is where all your energy, efforts and resources can get sucked out of you, if you are in the wrong friendship. Are you always the one giving in the friendship? Hmm…I will watch out if I were you. Pay attention here…and you will know people’s intent for wanting to be friends with you. Some friends only come to take and then leave when all is taken. These are the friends who all of a sudden disappear when times are hard, when you are going through life’s challenges, but are always present for the party. I called them vampires….not worth it, get rid of them! fast!. Sometimes these king
of “friends” don’t come in a way of taken and not returning…they can come in the form of demanding, not appreciative, always wanting your time but never given you their time…I know you know these “friends” I am talking about. Please get rid of them to keep your mental sanity…ain’t nobody got time for that! Remember that great friendships are always reciprocal…it should flow like a stream of water. Is all about the law of exchange…if it ain’t that…take another route.
Effort
Yes yes yes….we are in 2016; we are all SUPER busy ain’t we? But don’t get fooled young people…yes we are busy but there is ALWAYS time for what and whom one consider a priority. Man! I have been so guilty of this…always making excuses for people; that they are busy, I know they will check on me when they are free….and I’m still waiting for them to check up on me as I write this. Not worth it! Get rid of them!…do it now!. Anyone will make an effort for someone who they feel is deserving of their time…don’t get it complicated, its as easy as that. If you are in the business of not wasting time and energy…rid yourself of these kinds of friendships that don’t serve you. Unfortunately, some people will only recognize your value after you have removed yourself from them. Don’t waste your resources where it is not appreciated…especially if you are in the business of becoming your highest self.
Comfort Level
You gotta pay attention to how you feel when you are with certain people…feel the vibe, feel the energy. This will tell you if you should be friends or not. Do you always feel the need to be something you are not…do you feel respected, do you feel belittled…whatever the case, pay attention to your feelings when among the people you call friends and advice yourself moving forward. Is the friendship in favor of what you believe in….what do I mean here?…if you really hate to gossip, talk about certain things that doesn’t serve what you believe in, but this friendship always opens the platform for this kind of things…then you need to get out of it if it makes you uncomfortable. Do you feel like yourself when you hang with the people you call friends, or are you always justifying who you are?. Listen to your intuition…that small voice that tells you this isn’t it…please listen to it if you are in the business of becoming your highest self.
So there you have it young people. I know you are intelligent to know what’s good for you and you love yourself enough to let go of what isn’t serving you or better yet…what isn’t helping you to become
your highest, authentic self. You know what they say…show me your friend(s) and I will show you your character. This makes us accountable and responsible to ensure that we are in friendships that are reflective of whom we are, what we believe in, and of course…friendships that elevate us. Your friends should be and is a reflection of yourself… (think of it this way).
When a stranger pulls all your friend(s) aside without you there, that stranger has just made a pretty good judgment without prejudice of who you are…think about that for a moment and ask yourself, if that will assume anything untrue about your character.
Dear young people, love and respect yourself enough to let go of friendships that doesn’t serve you. And I want you to do this with no hard feelings…it doesn’t mean those people are terrible, it just means you are in the business of elevating yourself…becoming your highest self.
Being true to yourself comes with letting go and letting in…don’t hold on to the quantity…you will attract the right people in your life when you let go of the people who are not serving you. Remember this…the right friends, even if just one will help you elevate to the level where even 10 friends can’t. But above all…enjoy your true friendships, appreciate them…have fun!…on the journey of becoming your highest self.

Billy Graham: Satan Is The Author Of Evil, Not God

While God is all-powerful, it is Satan who is the
author of evil, declared famed evangelist the Rev.
Billy Graham in a recent advice column.

Graham was asked in a Q&A column published in The Kansas City Star about the originator of evil and how an all-powerful God was not responsible for
evil.

"Who is to blame for all the evil in the world, God or
the devil? I'd like to think it's the devil, but if God is
all-powerful, doesn't that make Him responsible for
everything that happens, even evil?" asked the
person.

Graham responded, explaining that "God is not
responsible for the evil in the world, nor will He
ever do anything evil or wrong."

"Nor does God ever tempt us to do evil or make us
do anything wrong. Not only would that be against
His perfect nature, but it also would defeat His plans
for us, plans for good and not evil," wrote Graham.

"Admittedly, God hasn't told us everything we'd
like to know about evil and why it exists, but one
thing is clear: God is not the author of evil, nor does
He give in to its allure."

Graham added that while the devil is the originator
of evil, "evil also comes from within us, within our
own hearts and minds."

"When we do wrong, we can't blame anyone but
ourselves, for we have chosen to turn our backs on
God and go our own way," continued Graham.

"This is why we need Christ, for only He can forgive
our sins and give us the strength to do what is
right. Have you committed your life to Him?"

Graham's comments on the origin of evil come
weeks after the release of a Gallup poll that found
less than two-thirds of Americans believe in the
devil.

In a survey conducted in May, Gallup noted in June
that while nearly 90 percent of Americans believe in
God, only 61 percent believe in Satan.

"Gallup asked the question that includes the 'not
sure about' option in random rotation with
questions about belief in four other religious
concepts: angels, Heaven, Hell and the devil," reported Gallup.

"Americans' belief in all of these is lower than their
belief in God, ranging from 72 percent who say
they believe in angels to 61 percent who say they
believe in the devil, with 12 percent unsure on
both. Belief in these four concepts is down at least
marginally from when last measured in 2007, following the same pattern as the trend in belief in
God using this question format."

The litmus test for salvation remains the FRUIT.by Jobi Kings #RhemaSound

Don't let them fool you by saying, it doesn't matter how you live once you've given your life to Christ, and are saved.

It never mattered more how you live  your life than when you're saved.

If we claim to be saved, yet cannot work in righteousness, that's a proof that our claim is false.

No, we are not sinners because we sin;
we sin because we are sinners.
And yes, that status has changed once we are in Christ.
But that's not the end of the story...

The nature of sin is destroyed by Christ, Halleluyah!!!
Yet it's our job to work out our Salvation, bringing spiritual facts to physical reality.
" But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."- 1 Corinthians 9:27.

We are not saved because we work in righteousness.
We work in righteousness because we are saved.
Righteousness is an outgrowth of Salvation in us, and if it is not there, it just isn't there.
By their fruit you shall know them.

Christianity is a call to participation with GOD.
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;
and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."- 2 Peter 1:5-8.

Most Christians are unproductive in Christ, bearing fruits no different from worldly and even satanic people because they're refusing to take responsibility for their faith, and partner with GOD.
NO, they want to use only their mouth in claiming blessings, while the rest of them remain idle to obedience concerning the things of GOD.

Sin remains the only problem between GOD and man.
Sin is more of a problem, than even Satan is.
If Satan could not lure Christians to rebel against GOD, and live in disobedience to the ordinances of Christ even after being born again, then Christian influence would be more effective in our society, and that would be a good thing.
Look around you though, alas...

LOOK AT THE FRUIT, NOT THE MONEY.

I Promise You Better Days Ahead, Even As We Remain Grateful, Buhari Tells Nigerians

ABUJA—President Mohammadu has, again, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with his
government in the face of the harsh economic
realities of the present time, assuring that there
were better days ahead

He also condemned the suicide bombing that
occurred on Monday in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

The President said he was not oblivious of the
hardship and hunger in the land and that Nigerians
were having a tough period.

Making the observations in a congratulatory
message to all Muslims faithful in Nigeria on the
celebration of Eid El Fitr to mark the end of fast, Buhari, however, appealed to the
rich to show some kind and philanthropic gestures
to the poor, especially to the victims of terrorism in the society.

The President in the message he personally signed,
urged the people to show love and understanding
to one another, irrespective of tribe, religion and
political leanings.

He said:

“I congratulate Muslims in Nigeria and
around the world on the successful completion of
this month-long spiritual journey of fasting, prayer
and almsgiving in obedience to the Divine
Command.

“I sincerely pray that the Almighty Allah will reward
our sacrifices with increased blessing and a more
prosperous future.

“On this happy occasion, it is my strong belief that
all true followers of Islam have been rejuvenated
on the true meaning and essence of life and
through the teachings of Prophet Muhammad
(SAW), we have learnt to imbibe the virtues of piety,
sacrifice, love, self-denial and good conduct in our daily relationship with one another.

“I am not unaware of what Nigerians are going
through and I want to use this medium to
commend the amazing sacrifices of Nigerians in the
face of the temporary economic and social
challenges and also reassure Nigerians that my
administration is working assiduously towards providing basic needs and other amenities.

“On Monday this week, the Vice President, the
Speaker of the House of Representatives and other
government officials joined me to host Iftar
reception at the State House with Nigerians of
different backgrounds including Internally
Displaced Persons, IDPs, artisans and Physically- challenged persons.

“Like I said during the reception, I want to once
again appeal to those of us who have the means, to
remember the millions of Nigerians who are
suffering deprivation because of violence
perpetrated by terrorists.

“I promise you all better days ahead even as we
remain grateful for your unflinching support to our
administration.”

President Buhari also said that he remained
committed to the fight against corruption in Nigeria,
emphasizing that every legal option would be
employed to conquer the social vice.

He also commended the armed forces for their
gallantry in the North East, even as he assured the
world that steps were being taken to resolve the
crisis in the Niger Delta.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has
condemned the suicide bombing that occurred on
Monday in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

Condoling with Saudi authorities over the attack,
President Buhari said the development was a
desecration of all that was sacred and holy, as it
took place near the Prophet Muhammad’s Mosque,
and on one of the holy days of Ramadan.

“I commend the Armed Forces and security
agencies for the gains recorded in the fight against
terrorists and the rescue of hostages in the North
East part of the country.

“I also appeal for the support, understanding and
patience of all Nigerians and our international
partners as we explore the fastest means to end
the economic sabotage in the Niger Delta and
amicably resolve the conflicts within the region,” he
said.

“The Key, The Secret, The Magic Is To Surrender To God’s Dream For You” Oprah Winfrey Delivers Empower Speech At The Essence Festival 2016

NEW ORLEANS, LA – JULY 02: Oprah Winfrey speaks onstage during the 2016 ESSENCE Festival presented By Coca-Cola at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on July 2, 2016 in New
Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Paras Griffin/Getty Images for 2016 Essence Festival)

We were super inspired by Oprah Winfrey ‘s speech at the Essence Festival in New Orleans on Saturday!

Watch this video clip from her speech where she
shares the story of the six trees…

• “I used to dream the dream driving through the white peoples’ neighborhoods. You’d see their fancy houses. Sometimes they had gates, but all of them had trees. .I thought, ‘Oh, rich people have trees. Some people want pocketbooks and cars, but I want me some trees. … About three years ago, I was sitting in my kitchen window, making coffee in the morning and I saw the six trees. I was making the coffee. I saw the six trees. I went out on the porch to actually count the six trees, and this
is what i noticed: That I could dream the six, but beyond the six trees in my kitchen window are 3,687 trees. How do I know? Because I had them counted. I dreamed the six. That was as much as my small mind and my imagination can see. I dreamed the six, but God can see beyond the six.”

Very captivating!

This was Oprah’s first-ever speech at the Essence Festival and she looked amazing in her red dress.
She started up by saying – “This is my first time here. What took me so long? What took me so long?…All I got to say is it’s beyond happiness to be
here.“

Oprah is one of the richest women in the world and she’s at the helm of a successful media empire. Poverty, teen pregnancy, failure are just some of the obstacles she has overcome.

One of the key messages we picked up was this – “The key, the secret, the magic is to surrender to God’s dream for you.“

Here are 5 insightful quotes and lessons from Oprah’s speech curated by Nola.com

• “I am living the dream. And I want you to live the dream because I’m not living the dream because I’m special. I’m living the dream because I was obedient to the call of the dream. I want you to leave here today thinking about what is the dream for you? What is God’s dream for you? What does the creator’s dream hold for you? So often we spend our lives hoping and wishing and hoping and wishing and desiring things. This is what I know for sure: You don’t get what you hope for. You don’t get get what you wish for. You get what you believe.”

• “For everything there is an equal and opposite reaction. … It means no matter what you do, what you say, the energy of who you are is going out into the world, into your home, into your relationships and that energy is always coming back to you. You are responsible for the energy that you are putting out into the world because that
very energy — bam! —is coming right back to you every single time, whether you believe it or not, because it is law. It is law.”

• “When you’ve done everything you can do, you don’t just have to stand. When you’ve prayed and … wanted and dreamed and held on and believed and got turned down and turned back and turned around, it taught me when you’ve done everything you can do, Surrender all. Surrender all.”

• “You have no power over any territory other than
your own, but you are the master of that. You get to
be the captain of your own soul and if you just manage that, if you just took care of your territory, all the glorious, glorious, glorious wondrous opportunities and possibilities are waiting for you. The question is, what are you resisting?”

• “Your life is big. Your life is huge, and we spend so much time wanting to be in somebody else’s life, and you don’t get honored, you don’t get revered, you don’t get celebrated wanting what somebody else has.”

#Pray4Naija: These Are Tough Times, Pray For Us – Nigerian Army Calls For Prayers

The Nigerian Army has called on Nigerians to
support and pray for officers and soldiers as they
put their lives on the line to defend the country
from internal and external threats.

Brig.-Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, the outgoing
Commander of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Port
Harcourt, made the call on Sunday at an inter-
denominational church service to mark 153 years
of existence of the Nigerian Army.

He said the day was marked out to celebrate the
living and honour officers and soldiers who paid
the supreme sacrifice with their lives.

According to him, citizens must honour their
memories by showing love to the families of both
the living and deceased personnel.

“The Nigerian army is celebrating its 153 years of
existence, and over the years has remained a
bastion of national unity and contributed to
national development.

“The journey so far has been very interesting and
challenging at the same time, but over the years the
army has defended the country to its best abilities.

“During this time we have lost officers and soldiers,
and so, today, we celebrate the living and
remember our fallen comrades.

“We also pray that God should continue to provide
for and protect the families of our lost heroes who
sacrificed their lives for peace and prosperity of our
country,’’ he said.

Olabanji, who is on posting to command 3 Brigade
Nigerian Army, Kano, said the army recorded
several successes in the last one year in spite of
daunting challenges.

He said that successes were recorded in the fight
against insurgency and illegal oil bunkering among
others.

Olabanji commended officers and soldiers of the
brigade and residents of the state for their support
during his time as brigade commander.

“I return all glory to God because it is neither my
strength nor power that I was able to accomplish
the little I achieved as Commander of 2 Brigade.

Similarly, Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association
(NAOWA), also donated several bags of rice,
cartons of indomie noodles, toiletries and other
consumables to Saviour’s Orphanage in Port
Harcourt.

Mrs Yemisi Olabanji, Zonal Coordinator of NAOWA 2
Brigade, Port Harcourt, and wife of the outgoing
Brigade Commander, said the gift were part of the
activities marking the Army Day celebrations.

She said the association would not relent in its
resolve to provide support for the less privileged in
the society. (NAN)..
