Does Talking About Your Pain And Suffering Show A Lack Of Faith? Christian Apologist Answer

Does talking about one's pain and suffering
give power to the adverse condition or
demonstrate a lack of faith in a believer? Is
doing so unchristlike?

Those are a couple of the questions addressed
in pastor and theologian Jeremiah Johnston's
recent book Unanswered, a volume intended to shed light on topics that have largely gone
unaddressed within today's Church.

Some believers might feel that expressions of
fear or concern about an infirmity or condition
somehow surrender their power against it,
while others believe that denying those
feelings of vulnerability is a sign of faith.

Johnston told The Christian Post that both
schools of thought are simply unbiblical,
asserting that plenty of annointed leaders in
the Bible were willing to be vunerable when it
came to sharing about their suffering.

Pastor Johnston, an Oxford-educated Bible
scholar, used Apostle Paul and his letters to the
Corinthian Church to illustrate this point. "Paul
is unafraid to share his affliction," Johnston told
CP, quoting 2 Corinthians 1:8: 'For we do not
want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia that we were
burdened by excessively beyond our strength,
so that we despaired even of life (NASB).'"

The pastor continued in Unanswered, " …
Christians should never be afraid to be
transparent about the reality of their suffering
and pain. Where did we get this notion that
sharing honestly about our pain and suffering
is somehow un-Christian?" The theologian put it simply. "You do not lack faith if you share
your pain."

Johnston was careful to note, however, that
while Apostle Paul didn't mind sharing the
reality of his pain and suffering, he didn't
constantly dwell on that pain.

"Though Paul is eager and transparent in
recalling his suffering, he does not live there,"
Johnston wrote, noting that as Paul began his
letter in 2 Corinthians 1, his focus is on God, not
his challenges.

"Paul had learned the lesson that every
overcomer eventually understands: learn from
the past but don't live there. Paul had his share
of troubles and significant challenges, but he
had been comforted by God, and as a result, he
was able to comfort the troubled Corinthian church family," he said. Apostle Paul drew his
strength from The Almighty and used it to
encourage others.

Johnston further emphasized that when
people experience suffering they should keep
their eyes on Christ.

"Our focus must remain on God when we
struggle, suffer, and exprience pain," he wrote.
"For Paul and his companions, their trials
taught them to 'not to trust in ourselves, but in
God who raises the dead,' (2 Corinthians 1:9
NASB)."

Focusing on God through trials is a
foundational message that's echoed
throughout the Christian community. Texas-
based Lakewood Church Senior Pastor Joel
Osteen imparted this lesson in a 2013 sermon
titled "Focus on the Promise, Not the Problem," encouraging believers to keep their eyes
focused on God and the assurity of His
promises regardless of their current ordeals.

Osteen said, "What we focus on we magnify.
We're not changing its actual size, we're simply
making it bigger in our own minds."

The Lakewood megachurch pastor said that
harping on negative news and bad
circumstances only makes the issues bigger
than they really are.

"It's changing your perception of it," Osteen
said. "You can take a small coin. If you hold it
up close enough to your eye, eventually it will
block the sun. That coin — even though it's
billions and trillions of times smaller [than the
sun] — because you've got it so close, it's distorting your perspective. ... Quit magnifying
what's wrong."

The pastor went on to use the example of a
negative medical report, saying that believers
could spend time dwelling on it and adding to
their worries. "All that time, it's becoming
bigger and bigger in your mind."

Sharing feelings about infirmities and personal
suffering might not increase or decrease the
power of those negative events, but dwelling
on them can certainly increase their influence
over the mind of the believer.

INSPIRATIONAL AND MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER AND WRITER MARY KELYN RELEASES SECOND CHAPTER ON RELATIONSHIP MATTERS IN YOUTHS AND YOUNG ADULTS

CONTINUATION ON IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP QUESTIONS

5. DOES HE OR SHE MAKE YOU HAPPY?
If your partner is someone you don’t always connect well with, quarrelling and arguing all the time it’s very dangerous. You've discerned that you two aren't happy together and you don’t want to leave him because of the impression you have given to your friends and family trying not to disappoint them , forgetting that when you finally get married it will just be the both of you.

There are people who are irritated with their partner but don’t know how to go about it only covering up with the circumstances that he/she has been good to you, he/she has done a lot for you, you don’t want to break his heart but you know that you are not happy in that relationship.
Don’t say as far as he has money and his living fine I will manage that to be happy, don’t think you can spend the money on something that makes you happy.People have traded off their happiness for some level of comfort.

Marriage is forever, if you don’t learn to adapt to his kind of person that’s the end of it.
If his jokes bores you there is no going back, it’s not like a relationship you can walk out whenever you are tired of it, you can decided to walk out now that nothing has happened than when you are already married .
Don’t be in a relationship out of pity (e.g.) because you've known him or her for so many years he has done so many things for you and your family, you don’t want to disappoint him even considering what people will say.Happiness is a big deal in a relationship, your partner making you happy is better than you having the whole wealth.
Be bold enough to call your relationship to order, no matter what it will cost you tell him/her that you aren't happy in that relationship and put an end to it. ”Earlier said than done”.
Have it in mind that A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP IS BETTER THAN A BROKEN MARRIAGE .

6. DOES HE HAVE A SOURCE OF LIVELIHOOD?
Is he able to take care of you and himself?
You might say you love him the way he is but you might not love him for too long. Love indeed conquers all, but love still needs a roof over its head, and good livelihood matters because of the expectations that come with it.
If you have to be in a relationship, you should be able to take care of your partner, most of the man’s responsibilities are to take care of the woman.
If you can’t take care of her, why involving her intimacy?.
Every lady should be able to ask her partner, where would we stay. Don’t have the impression that Love is blind.
Love is not blind because you saw something before you followed.

7. DOES HE OR SHE GIVES YOU ATTENTION?
Attention fosters attraction. How he/she looks is not as important as whom he/she is.Is he the party type, drinking to stupor kind of person etc.
When going into a relationship you should consider all these, who will pay attention to you and always be there for you if not at all time but most of the time. All relationship requires work; it takes time, patience and two people who are willing to put in effort. Lack of attention damages relationships far more often than abuse. There’s nothing more vital to the bond you share with each other than simply being there for them.
With frequent attention and affection a relationship flourishes, and as individuals you grow stronger. This is the side effect of a good relationship – we help heal each other’s wounds and support each other’s strengths.
Try to stay in close touch with those who matters to you – communicate openly on a regular basis. Not because it’s convenient, but because these people are worth the extra effort.

Billy Graham: Why You Should Forgive People Who Hurt You

Christians should practice forgiveness for those
who have greatly wronged them just as God
has forgiven them, the Rev. Billy Graham says.

When asked a question about family
reconciliation after a father deserted his
children when they were young but was
reaching out to them 30 years later, Graham's
advice was to forgive, because it will lead to
healing.

"You have carried this burden long enough,"
says Graham, founder of the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association, in his "My Answers" column.

He explains that Jesus calls Christians to forgive
because He "forgave you, (Colossians 3:13)."
And because holding resentment can feel like
an "acid eating away at your minds and hearts.
And they will continue to do so, as long as you
keep them bottled up and don't seek to forgive your father for what he did."

Graham acknowledges that while forgiving
such a grave offense can be difficult, it is also
necessary to begin "healing the hurts that have
been with you all these years."

However, to forgive is not to forget, Graham
continues. "This doesn't mean you overlook
what your father did or pretend it didn't
happen — because it did, and what he did was
very wrong."

Rather, we forgive to free ourselves of the
burden of resentment and pain

Forgiveness isn't easy, but the best thing
Christians can do is "begin by turning to Christ
for the forgiveness you need for your own
sins. Then ask God to help you forgive your
father in the same way He has forgiven you —
freely and fully, even if he doesn't deserve it."

"It won't happen all at once — but even a card
or a phone call expressing love could be a
start. Yes, he caused you great hurt — but he's
still your father, and you wouldn't be here
without him," Graham adds.

Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in
Orange County, California, has also spoken on
the importance of forgiveness, writing in a Daily Devotional this week that Christians should forgive because God has forgiven them,
because resentment is self-torture, and
because we need forgiveness every day

Resentment, Warren writes, is "a self-inflicted
wound."

"Whenever you're resentful, it always hurts you
more than the person you're bitter against. In
fact, while you're still worrying about
something that happened years ago, the other
person has forgotten about it! Your past is past,
and it can't hurt you any more unless you hold on to it," the evangelical pastor continues. Warren adds that if we want the daily gift of
forgiveness, we too need to practice
forgiveness for others.

"We cannot receive what we are unwilling to
give. Do you want to be forgiven? The Bible
says you need to be forgiving," the evangelical
leader writes.

News: Lecrae Signs Letter To Congress Calling For Gun Control

Lecrae's signature sits among nearly 200
John Hancocks by top artists and
executives in Billboard's new open letter to
Congress, inspired by this month's Orlando
shootings.

"Like the rest of the country and the world,
Billboard editors were horrified by the mass
killing at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub on June
12, and by the murder of singer Christina
Grimmie the night before. Both tragedies
occurred where musicians and music fans gathered. And so faced with another gun-
related tragedy, the staff organized this
special 'Open Letter to Congress' cover of
Billboard," the magazine's editors wrote.

This open letter is below. Others who signed
include Paul McCartney, Russell Simmons,
Lady Gaga, Macklemore, Katy Perry, Pusha T
and Selena Gomez.

AN OPEN LETTER TO
CONGRESS:

STOP GUN VIOLENCE NOW

As leading artists and executives in the
music industry, we are adding our voices to
the chorus of Americans demanding
change.

Music always has been celebrated
communally, on dancefloors and at concert
halls. But this life-affirming ritual, like so
many other daily experiences—going to
school or church or work—now is
threatened, because of gun violence in this country.

The one thing that connects the recent
tragedies in Orlando is that it is far too easy
for dangerous people to get their hands on
guns.

We call on Congress to do more to prevent
the gun violence that kills more than 90
Americans every day and injures hundreds
more, including:

Require a background check for every gun sale

Block suspected terrorists from buying guns

Billboard and the undersigned implore you
—the people who are elected to represent
us—to close the deadly loopholes that put
the lives of so many music fans, and all of
us, at risk.

Sincerely,

INSPIRATIONAL AND MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER MARY KELYN TALKS ON RELATIONSHIP MATTERS IN YOUNG ADULTS AND YOUTHS.

IN EVERY RELATIONSHIP USE YOUR MIND NOT YOUR EYES

IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP QUESTIONS

1. ARE YOU PHYSICALLY ATTRACTED TO HIM/HER

You must be physically attracted to the person you are going into a relationship with,

If you fall into love, you will gradually fall out of it.

There must be something to keep you in it.

Eg the way he/she talks, plays or even jokes etc.

Don’t let your emotions deceive you,

Never go into any relationship because of looks whatever that attracted you to your partner is what will keep you in the relationship.

2. WHAT DO YOU WANT IN A RELATIONSHIP?

*FLING?

*RELATIONSHIP?

*MARRIAGE?

These are the things you need to ask yourself before going into a relationship and also for ladies

It’s something you have to find out from you partner.

Every relationship has to be defined.(Have a purpose)

When you don’t define your relationship, your relationship will define you.

Don’t be ashamed to ask your partner. “WHERE ARE WE HEADING TO or WHAT ARE WE DOING”

3. ARE YOU LONELY?

Don’t go into any relationship because you are lonely.

When you are lonely that’s when you settle for anything just to fill in the gap, at that point you can even settle for the less. Being single has its own benefits, Those who feared being single are likely to end up in a dissatisfying relationship, it is understandable that we seek out intimate relationships, but when fear of being alone drives our romantic decisions, it can lead one to exercise poor judgment and to choose relationships that are unlikely to last or to a relationships that makes one depressed, even leave one vulnerable to abuse.

This is most likely referred to ladies who think they are getting too old for marriage.

4.  WHAT DO YOU WANT IN A PARTNER?

Attraction does not mean quality.

You have to ask yourself what you want in a relationship before venturing into it.

If you are a very churchy person and your partner doesn’t bother about God.

{Don’t go with the assumption that you can change him}

Don’t try to force or drag him or make it a prayer point, you might get into trouble along the line

You can’t change your partner and don’t try to change him.

Predominantly Human Nature Doesn’t change much apart from spiritual influence.

If you can’t live with him the way he is, leave him.

Billy Graham: The Best Way To Start Reading The Bible

The best way for someone to first begin
reading the Bible is to start with one of the
Gospels of the New Testament, the Rev. Billy
Graham says.

Graham, founder of the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association, wrote in a recent post
for the Kansas City Star that while some beginner Bible readers may think it's best to
start reading the Holy Book from the
beginning, he personally believes it is actually
best to start "three-fourths of the way through
[…] with one of the Gospels from the New
Testament."

The reason for this advice, Graham explains, is
"because Jesus is the center of the Bible's
message. The Old Testament points forward to
him, and the whole of the New Testament is
focused on him."

"In other words, once we understand who
Jesus is and why he came into the world, the
rest of the Bible will begin to make sense,"
Graham continues, pointing to Hebrews 1:2,
which reads: "In these last days God has
spoken to us by his Son."

The evangelical leader goes on to encourage
Christians to "[not] give up reading the Bible,
but make it part of your life every day."

"Begin in one of the Gospels, and ask God to
help you understand what it says. Not only will
you begin to realize who Jesus is, but you'll
want to commit your life to him and learn more
about him through reading his word," the
renowned Baptist minister says.

Graham adds in his message that "the Bible is
God's written word, and nothing could be
more important than knowing it and applying
it to our lives," pointing to Psalm 119:130
which reads: "The unfolding of your words
gives light."

Graham has spoken on the importance of
reading the Bible properly in previous blog
posts, writing for his Billy Graham Evangelistic
Association's "My Answers" page that although some Christians may use the Bible to prove
certain arguments, the real message and
purpose of the Bible is about God and Jesus
Christ.

"What is the Bible's real message? It is a
message first of all about God. It tells us we are
not here by chance; God made us, and He made
us because He loves us and wants us to be His
friends. But the Bible also is a message about
us: We are weak and sinful, and we need God," Graham wrote in the devotional from last year.

"Most of all, the Bible's message is about Jesus
Christ, who came from heaven to save us from
our sins and give us hope for the future. The
Bible's message is good news!" the evangelical
leader added.

In communicating the real value of the Holy
Book, Graham points to Proverbs 8:19 which
says, "my fruit is better than fine gold; what I
yield surpasses choice silver.

The Healing Power Of The Holy Spirit – Joyce Meyer

It's wonderful to know that, as believers in
Christ, we can live in close fellowship with God.
Jesus said in John 16:7 (AMP), "I tell you the
truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for
if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter,
Advocate, Intercessor — Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you;
but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to
you [to be in close fellowship with you]."

When Jesus walked the earth, He could be in
one place at a time and He could be with the
disciples. But the Holy Spirit can be everywhere,
all the time, and He lives IN those who have
accepted Christ as their Savior. Being with Jesus
is good, but having the Holy Spirit in us is even better. We don't have to go looking for God
because He's as close as close can get!

See, when we receive Christ and we're born
again, it literally means that God — through the
power of the Holy Spirit — comes to live inside
us. He makes us new on the inside, and as He
works in us, the fruit of what He's doing is seen
in the way we live and does some good for the people in the world around us. (See 2
Corinthians 5:17, 21; John 14:17, 26; Acts 1:8;
Galatians 5:22-23.)

Who He Is to You

John 16:7 tells us who the Holy Spirit is: Helper,
Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor,
Strengthener and Standby. John 14:26 (AMP)
says "He will teach you all things." The Holy
Spirit is THE Teacher and He guides us into all
truth.

Think of this in the standpoint of recovering
from things in the past that have hurt you.
Many people come to God because their life is
messed up and they don't know what to do to
fix it. They've tried everything they know to do
and nothing is working. So finally, in their desperation, they ask for His help.

Thankfully, God wants to help us and heal us
— spirit, soul and body. He wants to bring
restoration to us so we won't live in a state of
recovery forever. He wants us to be whole in
Christ so we can help someone else. We need
the Holy Spirit to lead us to truth one step at a time, and we need His strength to confront
things that are hard to face so we can get
victory over them.

In my journey with Christ, He's brought so
much healing and restoration to my soul — my
mind, will and emotions. My father sexually
abused me throughout my childhood. When I
left home at 18, I thought, "That's over! I'm
putting that problem behind me." But I took the problem with me because the wounds of
the abuse were still in my soul.

The pain of my past affected my thinking, how
I operated emotionally, all of my relationships,
and even my will. I was rebellious and
stubborn and promised myself no one would
ever hurt me or push me around again.

I was born again at this time but didn't know
that I could have the power of the Holy Spirit
working in my life. It was years later, after I
started seriously studying the Word of God,
that I realized the Holy Spirit could heal me.

It's so important to understand that we cannot
do this on our own, but as we lean on the Holy
Spirit for the strength to face our problems, we
can overcome them.

Run to Your Source of Healing, Not from Him

If you have hurts from abuse, disappointments,
an injustice or any other kind of mistreatment,
you will have to face them with the help of the
Holy Spirit to be healed of them. Because
anything you run from has a certain amount of
power over you, and until you face it, every time it raises its ugly head, you have to run
some more. Thank God, you don't have to do it
alone!

As I began my journey to wholeness in Christ, I
had to face some painful things I had been
avoiding and at times, running from. I had to
face the fact that my parents didn't know how
to love me … that I had been abused … that
there was a lot of pain in my life because of it all … that my dysfunctional behavior was rooted
in the mistreatment I had experienced and I
couldn't blame it on the people in my life now. I
had to take responsibility for my wrong
attitudes, mind-sets and behavior, and lean on
God for the wisdom and strength to change.

Recovery and restoration of our souls takes
time. One step at a time the Holy Spirit guides us
into truth that sets us free. I want to encourage
you today to trust God's love for you and that
He wants to help you and heal you. The truth is,
you can't heal yourself, but you can be completely healed and whole in Christ, because
all things are possible with God!

After Muhammad Ali Met Billy Graham, He Said: If I Was A Christian, I Would want To Be A Christian Like Him

During the Republican primary, Donald
Trump was criticized for failing to challenge a
supporter who stood up and declared,* “We have a problem in this country—it’s called
Muslims. We know our current president is
one.” Later, after the shooting in San
Bernardino, California, Trump called for the
banning of all immigration of Muslims until
“we know what the hell is going on.” His rise to being the presumed nominee, and his
considerable inroads into grassroots
evangelical votes, accompanied (and no
doubt benefited from) such messages.

Around the same time late last year, the
Wheaton College political science professor
Larycia Hawkins was put on “leave” following her donning of a hijab and
proclamation that Muslims and Christians
worship the same God. Later, Hawkins and
the school came to a mutual parting of the
ways, and Hawkins has since taken a new
post at the University of Virginia. Still, the episode led some to wonder whether there was to be a repeat of earlier works about the
scandal of the evangelical mind, and a
possible brain drain from campuses such as
Wheaton.

The contemporary Muslim-American
experience of freedom, surveillance, and
suspicion reflects much of the long history of
race, religion, and “difference” in American
history. The fears harken back to nativist
movements familiar in American history, most especially to the Know-Nothing Party of
the 1850s, which tried to ban Catholic
immigration and perceived Catholics as a dire
threat to the American Republic, just as
some Americans perceive Muslims in the
2016 electoral cycle. Perhaps most importantly, it suggests the ways in which,
for some Americans, “Muslim” elides
categories of both race and religion, and stirs
up deep-rooted American tropes of the
bounds of racial and religious habitation.

The passing of Muhammad Ali calls to mind a
period both of that surveillance and
suspicion, but also a different era between
Muslim-Americans and the evangelical
establishment that seems to be waning. In
1979, Ali visited Billy Graham in Montreat, North Carolina, after which Graham declared that “Ali’s primary beliefs are something we could all believe.”

Graham perceived Ali as a “healer” (painfully
ironic now, as this was just about the time
that Ali’s Parkinson’s disease was becoming
evident), and the two shared things they had
in common, including “love and belief in
mankind.”

Ali came away from the meeting impressed with Graham: “I always said if I was a
Christian, I would want to be a Christian like
him.” Graham later wrote to Rabbi Marc Tannenbaum, Director of Interreligious
Affairs of the American Jewish Committee,
and suggested that he meet with Muhammad
Ali, as Graham thought him to be warm to
the state of Israel and supportive of Jews
generally.

That was then, but this is now; that was Billy
Graham’s evangelical vision, while his
son, Franklin, has taken a stand with Trump
on banning Muslims. And Trump’s
endorsement by Paul Ryan this week indicates
that, all in all, he and the House Republicans will be just another brick in Trump’s wall.
Ryan’s resurrection of compassionate conservatism and the elder Graham’s more capacious visions for evangelical embrace of
others have fallen, like George Foreman in
1974, to a rope-a-dope strategy.

Revealed: Why Muslims Are Becoming Christians In Large Numbers

Did you hear that Miss USA Rima Fakih
converted to the Christian faith from Islam?
She's part of an exciting trend!

The headlines are filled with bad news about
the Muslim world in general — and Christian-
Muslim encounters in particular. We see
horrifying images of Christians kneeling before
being decapitated, of kindly nuns executed, of
believers by the tens of thousands forced to flee their homes as refugees to escape ISIS.

But as the late Paul Harvey used to say, you
need to know "the rest of the story." There are
some good, very good, things happening in
the Muslim world.

First, not all Muslims hate Christians — far from
it. As just one example, Sherry Weddell, writing
in the National Catholic Register, recalls the
treatment of one of her Christian friends who
lived among Muslims after the terrorist attacks
of 9/11. "She watched those terrible pictures from afar on the BBC, while being showered
with apologies, sympathy and support from
her local Muslim friends who had been close
friends for years."

And while it's a common complaint that so-
called "mainstream Muslim" groups aren't
speaking out against Muslim terror groups, we
need to give credit where credit is due. In
January, 200 international Muslim leaders
released the Marrakesh Declaration, which calls for Muslim-majority nations to protect the
freedom of religious minorities, including
Christians. Earlier this month, another 300
Muslim leaders from about 30 countries
gathered in Indonesia to denounce extremism.

All good! But as my colleague and BreakPoint
editor at large, Stan Guthrie, has said, "We
should never confuse our need for a peaceful
and tolerant Islam with Muslims' need for peace
with God through Jesus Christ." And that is
where the news gets even better!

For the last several years, researchers have
noted what happens when Muslims meet Christ
— huge numbers of them are becoming
followers of Jesus. According to some
researchers, the number of Muslims who have
switched allegiance from Muhammad to Christ has skyrocketed from effectively zero in 1960
to as many as 16 million worldwide today. That
includes roughly 470,000 right here in the U. S.,
including Rima Fakih.

J. Dudley Woodberry, a noted Christian scholar
of Islam, cites five reasons Muslims are deciding
for Christ: the lifestyle of Christians; the power
of God in answered prayers and healing;
dissatisfaction with the type of Islam they have
experienced; the spiritual truth in the Bible; and biblical teachings about the love of God.

Some of these things we can control; others are
up to God alone. For instance, there are reports
that Jesus is appearing to many Muslims in
dreams and visions, especially to those who
have little access to the Bible or Christians.

And even the awful news we see is being used
by the Lord to draw Muslims to Himself.

As David Cashin of the Zwemer Center says, "I
have often referred to Islamic radicals as
'proto-evangelists' for the Christian faith."

That dynamic has certainly happened in Iran,
where thousands of Muslims left Islam for Jesus
after experiencing the harsh faith of the
mullahs.

Truly, as Joseph in the Old Testament said, "You
meant it for evil, but God meant it for good."

Clearly, we Christians have a role to play in this
ongoing story.

"Significant numbers of Muslims are quietly
looking for spiritual alternatives," Sherry
Weddell says. "If you and I understand our
mission as evangelizers and apostles, build
relationships of trust, rouse spiritual curiosity
through our lives, pray for and share our faith in Christ and his Church with the Muslims about
us, we can play an important part in this
unprecedented movement of the Holy Spir

Billy Graham: When Jesus Returns All Wars Will End, Christians Will Have Complete Peace

One day, all wars will end and the world will
achieve great peace, the Rev. Billy Graham says.

In response to a question submitted to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, the evangelical leader explains when Jesus Christ
returns for the Second Coming, all destruction,
war and death will cease to exist and His
followers will be rewarded with eternal peace.

The questioner asked: Do you think the world
will ever be at peace, and we won't need
armies or weapons ever again? I get very
depressed reading about all the wars that still
go on, and I wonder if they'll ever end.

Graham answers by emphasizing that "Conflicts
and wars have raged almost since the
beginning, when Cain killed his brother Abel
(see Genesis 4). Even in our own time, terrorism
and open warfare threaten many parts of the
world."

Citing Matthew 24:6-7, Graham says conflicts
and wars will be ongoing until Jesus' return.

"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. …
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom," the verses read.

Graham adds that "The problem isn't just
economic inequality, or racial conflict, or social
injustice — although these are certainly serious
issues. The problem is deeper than these,
however — because the basic problem is
within our own hearts and minds.

"Would wars happen if we weren't greedy, or
power-hungry, or filled with envy and hate?
This is why we need Christ, because only He
can change our hearts and fill us with true
peace and love. Have you opened your life to
His transforming power?"

But there is hope for Christians, Graham says,
because "some day all wars will cease — when
Christ comes again!"

"He alone gives us hope for lasting peace — in
our hearts, and in our world," the evangelical
leader concludes.

In observation of Memorial Day this past
Monday, Russell Moore, the president of the
Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics &
Religious Liberty Commission, reflected on the
impact that war has on people's lives, explaining that some Christians feel conflicted about honoring soldiers who fought and died
in wars when Jesus taught peace.

Moore wrote in his blog that while the Bible
discusses the concept of "just war," it also
notes the importance of "turning the other
cheek" and "loving your neighbors," as
communicated through the Sermon on the
Mount.

But maintaining complete pacificism in the
modern world is unrealistic and "utopian,"
Moore said.

"A Christian whose first response to news of
unrest or persecution overseas is, 'Just nuke
them' is also speaking outside the way of
Christ. Yes, military action is sometimes
necessary. But Christians have always seen war
of any kind as a tragedy — even when it is the least bad of the alternatives before us," Moore
wrote in his Memorial Day post, as reported by The Christian Post.

"Christians also recognize that a concept of
'perpetual war for perpetual peace' is an
illusion. Jesus rebuked Peter for believing the
answer to Jesus' arrest was the declaration of a
violent counter-action, (Matthew 26:52). Sure,
there will be a 'war to end all wars,' but it will be fought at Armageddon — and it won't be
planned by the Pentagon," Moore adds

Billy Graham’s Advice For Dealing With People Who Judge And Critize You

Raise your hand if you've ever felt victimized by
an online bully.

You? Yes, me too. Thankfully, even though the
advent of the internet provides a mode for harsh
criticism, we are not without our own
protection.

Psalm 91 shows us how to avoid the fiery darts
of the enemy. But when those darts are verbal,
reactions become a bit more tricky.

In a question-and-answer column, a writer asked Billy Graham how to handle negative
people.

The famed evangelist offered sage words as to
why some strike out against others and also
how to live peaceably among all men:

People who are negative about
everything and always criticizing
everyone are admittedly hard to live with
—and sadly, they seldom change.

But they aren't only unpleasant; what
they are doing is also a sin in the eyes of
God. Why is this? One reason is because
they probably aren't telling the truth, that
is, what they're saying about the person
they're criticizing often isn't true. Even if partly true, it's not the whole story, and it
only brings hurt and conflict.

But it's also wrong because they are
setting themselves above everyone else
and acting as if they don't have any faults
of their own. Not only is this wrong, but
it's also untrue, and it keeps them from
admitting their need for God's forgiveness and help. Jesus said, "Do not
judge, or you too will be judged. ... Why
do you look at the speck of sawdust in
your brother's eye and pay no attention
to the plank in your own eye?" (Matt. 7:1,
3).

Pray for your sister, and pray for yourself
as well, that you'll not react with anger or
hurt, but with love. In addition, go out of
your way to be kind and to express an
interest in her life. People like this often
are hungry for love, and God can use you to demonstrate his love for her. The
Bible says, "Live in harmony with one
another. ... If it is possible, as far as it
depends on you, live at peace with
everyone" (Rom. 12:16, 18).

Joel Osteen: God Will Be Better At Fighting Your Battles If You Remain Peaceful

God will fight your battles if you remain at rest
and trust in His plan, Pastor Joel Osteen says.

Osteen, the senior pastor of Lakewood Church
in Houston, Texas, one of the largest churches
in the nation, wrote in a recent blog post that Christians should follow the story of the
Israelites at the Red Sea in Exodus 14, when
Moses tells the Israelites to "not be afraid. Stand
firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord
will bring you today. The Egyptians you see
today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

As Osteen writes in his blog post, Moses knew
that the fear of the Israelites would prevent
God from doing His job to protect them.

This same approach can be applied to how
Christians handle their daily fears, worries and
stresses.

"God will fight your battles if you'll stay at rest.
If you'll quit worrying about the medical report,
if you'll quit being upset over the contract you
didn't get, if you'll quit being stressed by those
people who are talking about you. If you'll
remain at rest, God will fight your battles," the megachurch pastor writes.

Osteen goes on to say that it is important to
identify the "peace stealers" in your life and
turn your burdens over to God.

"What's causing you to be stressed? Are you
carrying a load that you're not supposed to
carry? Are you allowing someone to dump
their burdens on you, trying to be the savior?
Turn that over to God. Don't let them pull you
out of rest. Are you allowing traffic, people or a grouchy boss to upset you? They may not
change, but you can change," Osteen says.

The megachurch pastor concludes his message
by saying that "life is too short to let peace
stealers determine our destiny."

"If you'll make this decision with me that you're
going to live at rest, you'll not only enjoy your
life more, but I believe and declare God will do
for you what He did for the Israelites. He'll part
Red Seas; He'll restore your health, and He'll
bring vindication, promotion and the fullness of your destiny. He'll fight your battles if you'll
remain at rest!" Osteen concludes.

Fellow evangelical leader Joyce Meyer has also
spoken on the importance of maintaining
peace, writing in an Op-Ed for The Christian Post that the best way to keep your peace in times of change is to uphold a positive attitude.

By maintaining God's peaceful presence in
ourselves, we can pass this attitude on to
others, Meyer writes.

"We live in a world that's full of anger, stress
and strife. Even though many people have a
desperate need for peace, they may not be
interested in hearing about God and what He's
doing in your life. But you can share Christ with
them by maintaining a peaceful attitude week after week, and month after month. Sometimes
it takes years, but God will use you in an
amazing way if you will consistently walk in the
fruit of the Spirit," the evangelical leader and
founder of Joyce Meyer Ministries, Inc. says.

#JusticeForBridget: President Buhari Condemns Killing Of Christian Woman In Kano

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the killing of Bridget Agbaheme, an Igbo market woman in Kano, as sad and regrettable.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

It said Buhari condoled with the husband of the deceased, Pastor Mike Agbaheme, the family and relations, praying that God would give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

The statement commended the law enforcement agents for apprehending the prime suspect, Dauda Ahmed in the killing.

It also commended the Kano State Government for summoning a meeting of Christian and Islamic leaders, widower of the deceased, and security agencies, as soon as the sad event occurred.

“The president assured that justice would be done in the matter, and urged the people not to take the law into their hands.

He charged those who might want to use the development to fan the embers of religious or ethnic hatred to
remember that two wrongs never make a right.

When law and order breaks down, those who become victims are never distinguished on the basis of religion or ethnicity,” it said.

It stated that the incident at Kofar Wambai market, Kano city, was utterly condemnable, and the state government has been quite proactive.

“Let us ensure that we keep the peace, as justice will be done. Let us learn to respect each other’s faith, so that we can know each other and live together in peace,” the President said in the statement.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalls that the late Bridget Agbaheme, a mother of one, was murdered for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.
